Dubai defeats another European giant and maintains their winning ways, defeating Bayern Munich (107-91) in Germany for Round 7 of the EuroLeague Regular Season.
Coach Pascual's recent starting five has been changed for Dubai Basketball, with Filip Petrusev making the cut. Wright, Mintz, Bacon, and Kabengele round out the starting five.
Dubai starts strong from the first minutes of play with a superb Kabengele. The Canadian center quickly reached double figures and became a key factor for Dubai’s victory. Bayern Munich struggled against Dubai's athleticism and dynamism, which also featured an excellent Filip Petrusev. Xavi Pascual's guys played a great Q1 and closed the quarter with a 15-point lead.
Bayern Munich failed to contain the power of a in-form Dubai, who continued to push hard in the second quarter. Elie Okobo contributed on the scoreboard but was also a top assist man tonight, with Jaron Blossomgame also playing key factor on both defense and offense. Dubai’s unrelenting dominance secured them 27-point difference at halftime against the home team.
In the third quarter, Bayern Munich fought back and tried to close the score, with Da Silva and Voigtmann playing a key role for the Germans. Bayern closed the gap, but Dubai pulled the score back in their favor at the end of the quarter, leading by 15 with 10 minutes remaining. Okobo and Wright played excellently as playmakers, while Kabengele dominated the paint, and Blossomgame performed exceptionally well.
In the final quarter, Dubai controlled the game with great authority and denied Bayern Munich a chance to come back, determined but not at the level of the visiting team. The Okobo-Kabengele duo sealed the victory in the final minutes.
Mfiondu Kabengele was the MVP for Dubai this matchup. The Canadian center finished with 24 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 rebounds in a dominant game.
Coach Xavi Pascual was satisfied at the end of the match, "A solid game in defense and offense. Excellent in the first 20 minutes, almost perfect. Then we were a bit softer, Bayern were better than us. In the end, we did a good job of controlling and managing the victory.”
Dubai will now return to action on Saturday in the ABA League against KK Bosna in hopes of continuing their undefeated streak.
